139b - More fight ...

Callum draws his dagger, letting his sword hang loosely by his side, and drives it into the thick neck of the dog clamped to his thigh. The dagger wound causes it to whine in pain, but still it doesn't release its grip on his thigh but clamps the teeth down harder, and starts to worry at the warrior's leg. The Dogs teeth seem to close right through to the bone and almost rip a mouthful of flesh from the big Celts leg (Callum 14pts of damage).

However, Kerim Rushes up and attacks the hound before it can recover striking with both his cutlass and Katar. (its AC droops to 10 while it's anchored to Callum's leg). Concentrating on the Katar, he also drives it towards the animal's head, while his cutlass comes down in a wild sweep across its back. In fountains of blood it keels over slowly, a betrayed look in its eyes, its jaws gradually unclamping and releasing Callum to fight normally. (Callum has a REALLY painful leg with blood still pumping from a gaping wound. -2 to any attack rolls as the leg doesn't hold up properly ).

Amok tears away looking for a tree to climb, as the other two dogs leap towards him, but all of the trees in the vicinity and short and stunted and seem to be growing from clumps of bushes. He soon realises that he can't get away from the animals although, so long as he runs flat out he should be able to keep ahead of them. However - it will be interesting to see who has the greater stamina … (Amok - I will need clear directions as to where you are going)

Ravn utters his war cry and charges towards the nearest doghead with his spear, the point just grazing the dogheads neck and shoulders. However, the doghead, still perhaps confused from Mandrakes antics and the Battle cry of the Norseman, stands almost stationary, taking only an ineffectual swipe towards Ravn, and missing completely.

Yuri Drives on along side Ravn, swinging his Falchion wildly towards the other doghead, but this one is more alert and fetches is great studded mace around in a huge arc, that catches Yuri in the stomach (Yuri 7 points damage)

Rolf, Elsbeth and laddie, push forward but find their route to the dogheads blocked by Ravn and Yuri. Edgar, Peter and Meeleek, retain their position as peter draws the mules closer to him, while Selina pushes past them and starts threatening the dogheads in a strange language.

OOC - back again :} and I will update Thursday - thanks for bearing with me. John

Away!
[edit] [delete]

Amok

Initially Amok will just attempt to lead the dogs away from the main battle. He will run in a direction which is at least somewhat away from whence they all came, the Doghead village. From the encounter map, that would appear to be North (or up on the map). He might stay sorta close to the road, which might be more West (or left on the map). I believe that he'd like to make it back to the battle, if he was able, or at least to the relative safety of the group. 'Like foes, make like friends.' But at least initially he'd lead the dogs off, away from the battle.

He has probably fought other beasts in similar terrain, so while running he will look for a good place to stand them off. This might be a pile of rocks where his footing might be surer than the dogs, or a tree as stated earlier, or brambles, in such an arrangement as to only allow one dog access at a time. It might be a sinkhole or a cliff, from which Amok would attempt to lure the dogs to their death, or at least to trap them. It might be a body of water, a pond, a river, a lake. Amok didn't take the swim skill, but he probably has waded in water. If the dogs aren't able to bite so well underwater, wading might at least keep his legs free from injury. Depending on how tall the dogs are, they may not be able to leap as well, while in the water, their legs good for treading only.

And while running in this fashion, Amok will also look for a better weapon, a sharply broken stick might make a spear, an antler a knife, etc. Before he tires completely, Amok will make a stand, one way or the other. Hopefully the dogs are getting tired too.
Seeing a slim chance
[edit] [delete]

Selina

Selina looks at the doghead slightly to the right of Yuri from her vantage point, and taking a slim throwing dagger she throws it in a simple attack, aiming at the beasts torso, her movements practised and automatic despite her injuries. Her other hand is readying a second knifeas she continues to shout at the beasts.

Rolf's on the scene
[edit] [delete]

Rolf

Rolf, feeling he's come late to the fray, unlimbers his bow and notches a sheaf arrow. He looks to see where best to loose his arrows. His eyes falling on the doghead beyond Kerim and Callum, Rolf let's fly first one arrow, then another before the first reaches his target.

OOC: The best I can determine, there's three Dogheads (two involved with Yuri and Ravn) and two hounds left (both chasing Amok) and no other hostiles immediately apparent. Is this correct?

Attack Dice: 16 and 19

Edgar

Edgar dances on his perch in agitation, his concern for his companions growing, after the wounds taken in the last pass.

Muttering to himself, he looks to the Dogsheads, wary lest any show signs of spell casting.
Thrust, duck, strike...
[edit] [delete]

Ravn Ashengrey

Ravn recovers from his failed thrust, ducks to avoid the doghead's equally hopeless retort, and regains his balance for another strike.

Still panting from rushing to the scene, the runecaster stabs with tremendous force at his semi-canine foe, a faint sweardom pushing through his grinding teeth.

"...feel the wrath of Odin, you ugly trollish fiend..."
Quick check of numbers
[edit] [delete]

Mandrake

Remembering the surprise that the dogheads had for the party last time, Mandrake heads west to the edge of the bushes and checks that there are not more reserves hiding again.

If not, he steps from the bushes into the clearing and calls a challenge as loudly as possible to the doghead north of him.

He hopes for little more than to distract the creature so that the others can gain an advantage. Indeed, if charged, then he will duck back into the bushes.

Ouch!
[edit] [delete]

Callum mac Aonghas

Callum thrusts the dagger back into his belt and, clumsily favouring his wounded leg, swings his sword around and smashes it into the back of the doghead engaging Yuri.

Amok

Those big darn Dogs! Amok seems to be leading them in a circle.

"BARK BARk BaRK BArk Bark bark bark bark -ark --rk --rk b--k b-rk bark bArk BArk BARk BARK BARK BArk Bark bark bark -ark --rk --rk.." and so forth.

Amok can't seem to find perchase, a place to make a stand! He continues to circle until he decides that branching furtherr out, will increase his chances of finding a stand-off situation.

Amok is concerned about the rag tag group of people he has just met. But his survival instincts also kick-in. Perhaps he is not as noble as he believed himself to be. But give me a chance to kill these beasts, and slay them I will he thought! And then, "(I may not be, as Noble as I'd like, I am afraid!)"
