135b Mule Train 2
[edit] [delete]

Peter fusses over Selina and moves her to a safe place, but is distracted by the discussion about making a sling for the injured girl.

Callum offers up his spear and takes Kerim's cutlass to the bush to start collecting more poles and withies to make Kerim's contraption. However it takes a while to find stems that Kerim and the others think appropriate, and while they argue, Selina makes her stumbling way back to the mules, unnoticed in amidst all the debate.

Just as Callum starts on his second branch, every one hears the sound of a dog howling off to the side of the track.

OOC - sorry if this feels slow - but I am trying to keep all three threads at more or less the same time …

Meeleek El'Wakhad

Muttering something the suspiciously sounds like We have the luck of a camel's ass in a caravan on a hot day! Meeleek moves closer to Selina and draws his Jambiya.
Noticing her hardships, he says gently: "You would do better to sit back down. To make a smaller target of yourself."

Peter Gasgano

Peter starts as he hears the dogs howling, automatically reaching for his shield and looking across to his patient.

He sees that she has struggled her way across to the mules, her pale face, shaking hands and sweat lined brow telling the story of her difficulties. Howling almost forgotten he bustles his way across towards Selina, almost shouting :-

"What do you think you are doing? You need to sit down, all that effort will only make you worse. You know you should call me and I will help if you need something ..."

Continuing in the same line he will take her arm and try, forcibly if rquired, to move her slightly away from the mule and sit her down again.
Fighting time!

Callum mac Aonghas

At the sound of the howl, Callum sprints back to the others, quickly passing Kerim his scimitar and unlimbering his claymore. "Where was the sound away?" he asks generally. Then to Selina "You should no' be on your feet lass!"
Inquisitive by nature

Mandrake

As the others drift off to collect the materials for the construction, Mandrake does the same, though sticks to the smaller withies leaving the larger boughs to Kerim and Callum.

Hearing the howl however, he stops in his task and dropping the pile that he has collected scurries into the cover of the brush.

Making his way cautiously back towards where the are gathered, he muses over the sound. Did his ears deceive him, it appeared to be a dog howling, but he has only seen the dogheads use trained wolves. Perhaps then not an animal of theirs, but then wild or domestic, a hunting dog or guard, pack or lone, perhaps belonging to a friendly hunting group or a homestead out in the wilderness.

Deciding that there are too many unanswered questions, Mandrake probably foolishly gives in once again to his inquisitive gnomic nature and slinks through the bush towards the sound.

Bursting into the Open!

Amok

With little will of his own but survival, Amok bursts from the brush into the open! A burst of red tanned flesh and loinskin, black-haired primitive, he moves with the grace of the land.

"Hayuk! Hayuk!"

Amok tumbles into a roll, freed from the grip of the bramble! "Ooof!" he exhales, as he lands hard! He rolls to a standing positon, all one fluid motion. And after a wink of time, looks left, right, back and forward. Then begins to dash through the group and into the brush on the other side.

A last impression as he rushes into the brush on the far side of the road... he is foaming at the mouth.

"BREAEK SHTOPP! MUUV! RUNT YOTE'! RUNT YOTE'!" he shouts as he runs.

Callum mac Aonghas

As this strange apparition runs through the group, Callum will attempt to stop him (tripping, grabbing, whatever is most appropriate).

OOC: What do you want me to roll?

Selina

Selina looks with cold glinting eyes at Peter, her head shaking from the effort to keep quiet.

She twists her arm in a slight, circular motion, twisting her body away from Peter at the same time, shoving him slightly away.
She braces herself against the mule and holds up a hand.

Your insistance in fussing over a dead woman will be the end of you all. We are wasting valuable time. At least let me mount, and ride, that way we can get far from here. We should waste no time, and I can ride a simple mule.

Grabbing at Amok

As Amok appears and somersaults across the path infront of the party, Callum rushes forwards and tries to grab him, but Amok has gone, like a streak of red grease, before the big Celt can get to him.

Behind him, and still approaching you can hear the howling of dogs, clearly more than one this time, and the sounds of something crashing through the undergrowth.

OOC: I rolled a 'To Hit' for you Callum. You got a 2 :( Sorry
No ...

Peter Gasgano

Peter is taken unawares as Selina twists away from him, and before he realisise it she has slipped his grasp and is heading back towards the mule, clearly intending to mount it again.

"Wait, Selina." Peter falls, frowning. "Rolf told us to wait for him, and there are still the others, .. and Corellon .." he falters slightly as he says the last name.

Suddenly, the strange red man burst across the path, and Callum leaps to try to stop him, but fails. The dogs howl again, and he can hear in the distance movement in the under brush/. "Ahh.." he says rexflexively, frowning.

Grimly he draws his dagger again -and turns to Selina. "Try and stay back if there's fighting ..." he says hoping she will listen

Selina

Bracing herself, Selina closes her eyes a moment, her head still shaking, and whsipers something. At the same time, she lets go of the mule and withdraws her two dagger blades. When she opens her eyes, her body stops shaking and a calm, empty look over comes her eyes, which are now the color of steel.

She silently flips the daggers in her hands so they blades point out, and steps more assuridly towards the noise her knives rising.

You would die to protect a bodyguard? Foolish. It is the duty of the guard to protect others at the cost of her own life. I may let you push me around, but when you ask me to lay down my duty to my lord, you will find me much harder to push.

OOC: What would I roll if I wanted to shift the wind to hide our scent from the oncomers? Thanks.

Running Amok

Kerim Alakani

OOC: Don't worry if it is going slow, so am I at the moment.

His attentions divided once again a heavy weariness shows on his face. More than once before he has tried to step into Rolf's shoes to help ease the burden of his leadership, only to have his decisions go awry. Now, it seems, is no different.

With his cot hardly finished a strange man has burst through their group, pursued as it seems by hunters. Then there is Selina, insisting she is well enough to ride and even further capable of defending someone.

Amid the chaos the one thing that reaches him as odd is Mandrakes comment about Dogheads not using dogs, but wolves. As he tries hard to recall his own encounters with the Dogheads in this area whilst he travelled with Rolf in recent months his concentration fails him.

In a burst of anger he commands. "Selina, what guard is good to us dead. Willing by too far is Callum to leap into deaths arms for the sake of the ring of sword on sword. I'll not have another."

However his anger breaks as quickly as it rises, realising his tone to a female and the dire predicament his loud voice might place them in.

After cursing at himself he adds, returning to his diplomacy, "Lady Selina, Lord Richard did I am sure not send you to guard us. We, each of us, is free of bindings to Lord Richard. Such is the case you shall have to wait to sacrifice yourself."

"Callum, afraid I am that you too will have to wait. However this I guess will not be long for whoever that hunts that red man does so with hounds. His scent they obviously have, and that it leads to us before him shall bring them to us soon enough"

Kerim scratches at his hair furiously, trying hard to think with reason.

"I know not of who or what pursues the red man, however Mandrakes comment does suggest it be not dog men. Thinking I am that we might want to see whom it is in such a case that we might avail of their hospitality. Perhaps they are human."

Kerim looks at the sick and wounded, then looks toward where the red man came from.

"Come, let us stand near enough to see and decide if their aid can be called upon. A hound upon the scent will likely ignore the mules and us."

Kerim pulls the mules aside of the trail of the red man about 40 yards, suggest a defensive circle be taken with the mules in the centre, Callum and he at the fore, Peter and Mandrake a side each and Selina at the rear. Once done he draws his bow.

Of course only if there is time, which might not be on our side.

Meeleek, ignored again by his countryman, stays guard by Selina.

OOC give Meeleek the chance to go whereever he wants, without Kerim complaining .. :P
Gritting her teeth
[edit] [delete]

Selina

Selina keeps her hands on her blades, fists clenched hard. As much as they might like her to stay in the rear, she edges toward the perimeter, ignoring the comment about the freedom of the group.

She looks at Kerim with her dark eyes, glaring at him while softening her words as best as she can.
If I'm going to die, Lord Kerim, I'd rather die on my feet, weapon in hand. If I'm to live, I'll do it fighting alongside, so that we may all have a better chance of living. I'll answer to Lord Richard if my actions merit it. If you object, you are welcome to stop me bodily, though I suggest we not waste time further on this.

OOC: Admin, I think I'll pass on the wind shift attempt.
