125 - fire fight

Admin

Corellon, quickly but quietly backtrack and head for the bushes and Rolf follows a little behind covering his back. Things happen quickly, Kerim turns to face the side of the track and losses and arrow into a bush, but hears no cry of pain. Meeleek turns the other way, presumably readying spells and Ravn calls forth the power of the Norse gods into his spear as he detects for evil in the bushes. Unfortunately, before Ravn can call out his findings, another barked command causes a number of dogheads to step out from behind the bushes. Moreover, they seemed to have learned since their last ambush as well. This time they are all armed with longbows and release an arrow as the step into the clear. However the gods seem to be with you - because only 2 arrows strike their mark, one striking Meeleek and the other Ravn. The others land harmlessly in the trail. But worse is yet to come, a second or two after the bow-men appear 6 wolves suddenly streak from behind the bushes towards the party. 3 seem to be heading for Corellon and 3 for Selina….. OOC - 5 points for Meeleek, 3 for Ravn. BUT both of you can still get spells off …. OOC - new image now on the web site

Preparing for battle

Ravn Ashengrey

Ravn whinces at the onslaught of the arrow against his armored shoulder. Fortunately, it bounced off his mail but it still left a sore reminder of the brief encounter. Noting the glittering dots of evil presence all around them, the Runecaster hurries to offer his loud-spoken advice to the Constable. "ROLF! We are like pork roasting on a spit here - we cannot outrun these creatures but if all of us close on one flank together their bows will be useless for fear of hitting their own. QUICKLY! To the elf's aid while I summon the Aesir's favor!" Then he holds the spear in front of him, wetting its still gleaming head with mead as he quickly draws a sacred rune upon it. "Mighty THOR, son of ODIN! Defender of the righteous, JOTUNSBANE! Grant us your blessing to repel these abominable beings! Install in us the courage to reward them for their evil ambitions with an oarsman's seat on Hel's Naglfar! Guide our hands and shield us from their trollish wrath!" The spell completed, he raises the spear above his head and prepares to rush after the others. OOC: That's a Bless spell cast on Ravn's spear, affecting everyone within a 50-foot cube around it with a +1 bonus on attacks, morale and saves vs. fear. Enjoy it while it lasts (6 rounds).

Add a little color...

Meeleek El'Wakhad

** EDITED March 5, 2002, 11:35 am ** As the order is barked and the foul creatures make their appearance, Meeleek releases his readied spell- a Color Spray. The young mage almost shouts the incantations in defiance, and throws into the air a fistful of colored sand, that streaks out as rays of color to strike the opponents attacking from Corellon's direction. The arrow strikes Meeleek hard on the left shoulder, and a shout of pain escapes his lips. A large crimson stain starts to spread rapidly over the mage's Aba, and he fumbles back, already reading his next spell (invisibility on himself).

Here we go

Elsbeth

Elsbeth draws in a quick breath, seeing a return of enemies she had hoped not to see again. She looks to the group attacking Corellon and points a finger, giving orders to the plants, the bushes the grasses... Entangle As she casts, she growls at Laddie to attack...

Stupid Leadership

Rolf

Rolf takes in the ambush with a quick curse for himself. He'd been here before, he should've known better, been more careful. And now, the others would share the cost for his lapse. "Aid Corellon," he calls over his shoulder. Bringing the massive sword to bear, he charges for the doghead in front of him (the one nearest the barrier across the trail). OOC: In case it's appropriate -- Rolled 12 to hit, 11 for damage

Blood hell!

Corellon Amastacia

Seeing the wolves and creatures jump out, Corellon curses out loud and runs back to the group. Once there, he withdraws his short bow and takes a shot at the doghead to the north (where he ran from). OOC- My Thac0 with Short bows is 18. I also have +3 to hit (I add that to my dice rolls) Attack 1: 10 Attack 2: 19 Damage 1: 5 Damage 2: 2

Trees a crowd

Edgar

At the first loosing of arrows, Edgar takes to the air, heading for the trees and safety, for he can do little against such foes as these. Once in the tree he watches what transpires below with mounting concern ...

Going to work

Selina

With a slight sigh of anoyence, Selina looses her razor wind in the same smooth motion that brings the twin metalic clubs ot her hands. The spining blade whistles as it flys through the air taking tword the lead wolf then curling north to the second and comming back in a circle that would bring it in line with the dog head behind the bush clump. But that is beyond the body guards senses as with a flich of her wrists the clubs in her hands spread out into two huge but delicatly worked and perfactly balanced battle fans. With a wordless snarl she toss one of the blades up and with a twist a small dagger fys for the face of the doghead near the bushes to the south of her. Easily retaking the blade in her hand, she spins to meet the advance of the remaining wolves.

Charming fellow

Mandrake

OOC: So, here at last, but who is Custer? Mandrake darts for the bushes south of their position falling back upon the techniques that he employed in the similar situation before. Scampering on through the bush in the hope that it will provide cover from missile fire he emerges the other side and shouts to the doghead (bottom left), waving him to come over. His beckoning becomes intricate however, and with a release of arcane energy he attempts to charm the doghead.

Can't run

Kerim Alakani

Edited by Admin - to reflect post in next thread :) Realising with a certain grim finality that you can't outrun a wolf Kerim looks about to see the chaos. He is surprised to see Selina stand her ground so boldly, and although he would have her retreat somewhat to the others he decides that safety is to be had in numbers, so he runs to her side. "Fancy indeed is your skill with such strange weapons, weapons such as have I never seen." P.S. GM, it is obvious why few arrows hit us, it was the sagely advice from Kerim to keep your profile small. My Dex should see my two weapon penalty at 0/-2. I will be away from the 11th till 17th, see ya later. Kill em all is Kerim's motto, he hates Dogmen.

125.5 combat

Admin

Confusion ….. Everything seems to happen at once. Corellon sees the wolves attacking and turns to runs back towards the party, unlimbering his bow as he goes. At the same time Meeleek fires his colour spray towards the enemy attacking Corellon, and Elsbeth casts an entangle spell - hoping to catch both the wolves and dogheads. Meleek's colour spray goes off almost instantly (casting time 1) and a scintillating fan of clashing colour suddenly leaps from his hand towards the antagonists. However, he was unprepared for Corellon's quick retreat, and Corellon not expecting the spell of this nature from the party, runs straight into the area of effect as it is cast. He tries to stop but just skids into the rainbow fan. As the fan dissipates, the wolves can be seen lying stunned on the ground while Corellon staggers around blindly. (Blinded for 4 rounds) A split second later Elsbeth's entangle strikes the area, catching the three stunned wolves and the two dog heads behind them. Fortunately for everyone, Corellon staggers away from it, and doesn't get to fell the effects of this particular spell. Mandrake scurries through the bushes, finding them surprisingly easy for one of his size to negotiate, and beckons towards one of the dogheads - who lowers his bow and wanders over quizzically. However, when Mandrake glances around, he notices that the dog heads have learned from the previous failed attack, and that more of the monsters lurk behind the bushes. Rolf charges the doghead nearest to him, but it manages to get a single arrow away from his bow before Rolf closes him down, the arrow strikes Rolf in the shoulder. (2 points of damage). When Rolf reaches him, however, he takes his revenge sweetly, his bastard sword cleaving straight through the monsters bow stave and arm, before slicing into its chest. Its eyes glaze over and its life blood spills to the trail as it slowly sinks to its knees, and then falls to one side. Stone dead. Selina grabs her Razor wind from her belt and hurls it towards the first of the wolves. It strikes the first wolf in the chest, leaving a gash, and travels on to hit the second wolf in the flank and before strike the third. It then loops back to her hand. (Congratulations 3 hit rolls). Unfortunately the only people to see it are Callum and Yuri who come trotting around the bend in the trail. (Here is Custer and the cavalry). They also see her catch the disk and return it to her belt as she draws her clubs and starts swinging them in what appear to be impenetrable fans. Moreover, they also see more dogheads creeping around the bushes, with battle-axes in their hands. As Edgar flies towards safety, he spots what he hopes are the last of the dogheads hiding behind a bush the other side of the pit. Laddie speeds towards the doghead he was pointed to - his memories of his former masters, perhaps, adding speed to his legs - but he still doesn't make it before the doghead gets an arrow off towards him. However, Laddie manages to jink at the last moment and the arrow strikes the place he would have been. Then he is the doghead and launches a snarling attack at the creature, catching its arm and worrying it. No longer able to use the bow for its purpose, it swings a vicious blow with the stave towards Laddie's hindquarters, striking him squarely on his rump (5 points of damage). Laddie loses his grip and is thrown a few feet sideways, but he is immediately back on his feet, snarling, and ready to attack his tormentor again. Kerim and Peter stand non-plussed by the speed of the action, but ready to react next round. Two other dogheads with bows, have been left unmolested and they each fire two arrows into the party. With more time to aim this round, their arrows strike true. One takes Selina in the lower leg (6 points) the next takes Kerim in the thigh (3 points ) while the other doghead targets the party from the opposite direction. However his arrow are not quite so well directed, and one strikes Elsbeth while the other hits Ravn, but only glancing blows causing minimal damage (1 point each) Rolf looks around looking for his next opponent, and spots one hiding behind a bush, however he also catches a movement (out of the corner of his eye) the other side of the pit, and glances quickly around. Walking into view from behind the bush, but on the other side of the pit, is that same doghead leader who led the first attack on the party, and who was a 'protected' guest in the giant's tower. OOC - Wow that was complicated :} Hope I didn

Battle Plan

Admin

Key Yellow dogheads have bows. Light blue dogheads had battle-axes or morning stars. The white doghead is looking at Mandrake. Orange dogheads are wolf handlers and carry spears. The grey doghead is the leader. The dark blue doghead is dead. Red speckles are the entangled area.

Alright

Corellon Amastacia

Covering his face as the color surrounds him, Corellon is too late as his vision is impaired. Unable to see at all, he continues towards the party (the same direction he was last headed) now at a walk. Keeping hold on his bow, he holds one hand in front of himself to ward off any obstacles. Calling out to whoever hears him, "Something happened to my eyes! My vision is lost to me!" as he wanders.

One down.....

Rolf

Rolf feels a surge at the slaying of the doghead and the slight wound on his shoulder causes him little pain, at least for the moment. Yanking his blade free, he catches sight of the doghead from the Giant's fort. "Bastard..." Rolf mutters, feeling the urge to rush to the attack of the leader. If it wasn't for the others, he'd do so, but he couldn't ignore them. He hears a whimper from Elsbeth's wolf and sees the doghead to his right (bottom right " light blue" doghead). He decides to go for that direction. One, perhaps more, of three things would happen, he'd flank the dogheads, he'd draw the dogheads from his companions or he'd be struck down. OOC: To hit - 4 Damage - 6

Sorry...

Meeleek El'Wakhad

** EDITED March 8, 2002, 2:48 am ** Seeing the outcome of his spell, Meeleek utters a foul curse. Rushing towards Corellon, the young mage grabs the elf and says:"come here, I shall protect you." He pulls him toward the nearest bush, and as they reach it, he casts the Invisibility spell he intended for himself on the blinded elf. "You are now unseen. Stay quiet till your sight returns." With that, the mage pulls out his Jambiya and also retreats into the bush for cover.

Charge!!!

Callum mac Aonghas

** EDITED March 8, 2002, 10:38 am ** Seeing the situation, Callum slaps Yuri on the shoulder and points at the doghead off to their right before dropping his gear, hefting his sword and charging towards the nearest doghead, while swinging his sword to build up it's momentum. With a battle cry of "An each gu brath!" he swings the massive sword around, smashing the doghead on the shoulder. OOC: Thanks for the surprise bonus! That's 17 damage!

OOC Callum

Admin

Doghead SRE AC 5 :) But you can have a +2 This attack only) for surprise :) That doghead sure wasn't expecting a huge screaming painted warrior to come screaming around the corner. Same bonus for Yuri.

Ooops

Kerim Alakani

** EDITED March 8, 2002, 9:24 am ** ** EDITED March 8, 2002, 9:23 am ** I forgot to read this thread and stupidly posted in last thread. Ignore most of what was in last message of mine. Kerim notices the Wolves holding off whilst we are pelted with arrows. So keeping low he fires at the Doghead archer to the south of him, wincing at the pain in his calf as he continues to crouch. He calls to Selina "Archers we must best first before worrying about Wolves. The dogheads cowards have learnt this it seems, for they wait. When down this one is, then I shall help with the wolves." GM: Please accept my dice roll from the other thread (it was rolled but a moment ago). Although my dex bonus to hit with missiles is better so it is actually a total of 21. I don't know if a 15 hits these suckers but I rolled damage anyway. As I will be away for a week my plan is to down the archer firing on me. If closed upon by the wolves or other footsoldiers I will drop the bow and draw the Cutlass and Katar and let rip. I will stand by Selina's side to aid her, encouraging her to pull back, but if she doesn't then I follow her. My dex react bonus means my two weapon penalty is only 0 on hand -2 off hand, or +1/-1 taking into account strength. Cutlass damage d8+1, Katar D3+2. Oh, and whatever bonus for Bless on top. I suppose the second shot will have hit too then. See you later

A chance for revenge

Yuri

Despite the gravity of the situation Yuri cannot help but smile, having finally found the party. After an appreciative glace at Selina, Yuri starts to call out, "Rolf! Elsbeth! Ed--", before a jolting slap on the back from Callum returns him to reality. Reality beings memories, and without hesitation Yuri draws his blade and recklessly charges the Doghead, hatred burning in his eyes.

OOC: Not that simple ..

Admin

... which one Yuri?

Cover ...

Peter Gasgano

Peter sees Meeleek guide the blinded Corellon towards the bushes, with relief. Ducking down between the mules he leads them towards Meeleek and the disappeared Corellon, providing more solid cover from the south. "Do you want me to stay with him?" he asks Meeleek. Then noticing the blood on Meeleek's abba, he calls softly. "Come over here where I can reach you. I might be able to do something about that shoulder..."

help IS needed

Meeleek El'Wakhad

"He will be safe, now he is invisible," answer the young midani. He makes his way to Peter with caution on to be shot again and says: "Thank you, Peter Gasgano."

nearly ....

Peter Gasgano

Not worrying abouth the niceties of inspecting the wound, or even considering using the meiical supplies in his pack on the mule, Peter places the plam of his hand across the wound and closes his eyes. Meditating, trying to block out the noises of the battle, Peter concentrates on the wounds closing … A few seconds later he breathes out hard, and shakes his head. " Its hard …. One more try" - and he closes his eyes and tries to focus his mind again …

Charge!

Ravn Ashengrey

Ravn, raising his gleaming spear, sees that his recommended - and preferred - strategy was not carried out and now seems rather unfeasible for the twirling mass of roots, branches and scintillating colors covering the area between the bushes where Corellon spotted the dogheads. However, he also sees that Corellon is being brought to safety and that the burly celt warrior has announced his appearance with blood and gore, and so the Runescaster decides to join the fray himself. He charges, spearhead now lowered, toward the other doghead bowman threatening their flank and Elsbeth’s canine companion, an ancient warcry on his lips: "ODIN HJÆLPE!"

Alright

Corellon Amastacia

Crouching down where Meeleek leads him to, Corellon nods his understanding at his instructions. Hoping that the invisibility spell does work, Corellon asks, "Are you sure it will work? I don't know anything about this stuff..." before trying to listen to the battle.

Just in time !

Edgar

From his vantage point, Edgar sees Corellon's predicament, and is just about to come to the young man's aid, providing him with a pair of eyes to steer him clear of the combat ... However, before he can launch himself into the air, Meeleek is able to bundle Corellon into the safety of the bushes, and so the raven relaxes his tensed muscles, settling silently back on his perch. With his attention (and worries) fixed upon the happenings below, the arrival of Callum and Yuri surprises not only the dogheads, and it is only the battle cry of the big painted warrior that announces their presence. But he cannot spare time to greet them now, as his watchful gaze flicks back and forth between the predicaments faced by Rolf and Laddie.

Surprising the ambushers?

Mandrake

Mandrake beckons the doghead urgently to follow and then heads east along the edge of the bushes hoping to draw his new found friend away from the fire fight and into a situation where they can use missile fire. As he proceeds he is surprised again to see yet more waiting in ambush and proceeds to fire his sling at the closest, indicating with a mime that the charmed doghead should do the same as and when he catches up. The shot flies through the air and finds its mark, striking the closest creature (OOC: 19 hit roll and 4 points damage).

Fighting

Selina

With barely a flinch, Salina breaks the shaft of the arrow in her thigh, then straightens and waits untill the wolves reach her, hoping someone can take out those bowmen.

Defending her 4-footed friend

Elsbeth

Elsbeth cries out in pain, small wound though it is. She quickly moves over to where Laddie is getting up and draws her scimitar. However, she swings wildly, missing the doghead completely. Angry and hurt, the druid snarls at the creature, sounding much like the wounded Laddie beside her...
