124 - what have we here ...

Admin

During the evening Laddie appears back at camp with a small Rufus deer, grasped by the scruff of the neck. Trotting proudly through the bodies he half carries it half drags it to Elsbethss feet and drops it there. He stands proudly over it looking up into her face, panting slightly and tail wagging, waiting for her approval. His muzzle is slightly stained with blood, and he looks very pleased with himself.

Over night watches go fairly smoothly although there is still some confusion about who should be doing which shift - but with a little grumbling every thing is covered. Again morning arrives to a breakfast from Peter, the day is slightly over cast, but the sun peaks through every so often, and it stays dry.

Setting off you fall into the same pattern as yesterday, Edgar flying above to see what he can - and Corellon about 60 feet in front of the party.

Suddenly Corellon slows as he spots something unusual in the road ….

Ittitable grump

Kerim Alakani

Kerim, having not slept well, wakes in no better mood than before, indeed worse for wear.

He actively avoids anyone who seems unreasonably happy, or who seems to want to chat, keeping much to himself.

The few words he does say in conversation tend to revolve around dogheads and ambush.

The moment Correllan slows Kerim grabs frantically at his bow. In his haste he withdraws two arrows instead of one, dropping one to the ground.

A spiteful look darkens his brow as he squats to pick the arrow up, putting it back in the quiver.

He draws the bow, ready to lose a shaft at whatever spooked Correllan, his arms quivering slightly with anticipation and fear.
Maudlin

Rolf

As the new day dawns, Rolf still seems a bit uncomfortable with the memories of his last time along this path. He takes to keeping one of his javelins in hand. Marching towards the fore of the party, he spies Corellon slowing and he stops abruptly. In a hissing voice, he says to the others, "Wait, and be watchful." He trades the javelin for his blade and begins to move slowly towards Corellon to see what's what.
Hold up

Corellon Amastacia

** EDITED February 26, 2002, 9:11 pm **

Calling back softly, but loud enough to be heard, Corellon warns the others and stops dead in his tracks and waits a second, listening. Calling Rolf, specifically, over, he asks him to watch his back, frees his hands of his sword, and then he crouches down and reaches forward slowly, pressing on various branches, as well as brushing several branches away. Something is obviously amiss, but he does not speak of it until he has figured it out for himself. If something is found, he will grab Rolf and quickly retreat back to the rest of the party, readying himself for trouble.

Ravn Ashengrey

The growing tension and ill expectations of his companions does not pass unnoticed by the Runecaster, and even Uddhugg - the one-eyed crow that follows him around - has seemed irritable this morning. Now Ravn knows why.

When the elf's actions reveal the presence of possible danger Ravn clutches his spear even harder, reading himself for whatever lurks ahead. To his relief, the familiar shivering sensation in the shaft reassures him that the power of the Aesir are at his disposal - now as ever.
oops ...

Peter Gasgano

Letting the general air of discontent pass as the new day starts, Peter carries out his normal duties then falls into place in the line of march.

As Corellon stops suddenly and calls Rolf to him, Peter shortens the rein on the mule he is leading, and shifts his shield to a more comfortable position.
waiting

Admin

As you wait Laddie's ears suddenly prick up and he growls softly.
Watch your back!

Meeleek El'Wakhad

At Rolf command, Meeleek tenses. He crouches in place, but instead of looking forward, he peers intently to the bush surrounding them, fearing a possible ambush. His hand moves into his Aba but weather to grasp his jambiya or produce a spell ingredient- you can not tell.
A warning

Elsbeth

Elsbeth stiffens with Laddie's growl. Drawing her weapon, she looks down at the wolf. "Go. See she growls in his tongue, her eyes watching the surroundings.
Casting

Ravn Ashengrey

Ravn, too, notes the wolf's growl and the direction in which it turns its snarling attention. Slowly, he rolls the shaft of his spear in his hand, letting the spearhead catch the sunlight and reflect it into the surrounding wilderness.

"Ravens' Master, hear my plea and reward it with your favor! Cast your All-Seing Eye on the wilderness that surrounds me and reveal to me the evils fiends that may be lurking there!"

The rune engravings on the spearhead seem to glow with an orange sheen, and the reflection intensifies, casting a bright shaft of light a hundred or so paces long, bathing a ten foot wide path along its length in a faint yellowish shimmering.

OOC: That's a Detect Evil spell.
Wassup ?

Edgar

Up above, Edgar has noticed nothing amiss, but seeing the party suddenly stop, he wheels back and around ...
Drop

Kerim Alakani

Kerim, an experienced sailor, knows one thing, and that is that when it comes to being in the open one must present the enemy with as small a target as possible.

He urges everyone to drop to their knees, both verbally and by adopting this stance first.

He looks at the Mules sadly, wondering if this might be their end.

After a quick thought on the matter he stands and places his bow on the back of one of them whilst he ties their leads together. Should they bolt at least they'll be easier to find and what goods are needed easier to recover.

If it were up to him he'd free them, however Correllan might find nothing and this would only provoke discontent amongst the rest.

With this task finished he quietly grabs his bow, hushing the mules, as if somehow this will help Correllan and Rolf, or indeed all the others avoid detection.

On one bent knee and with arrow ready and more stuck in the dirt for easy access he awaits his fate.

"Fate be kind to us all"
Mules ...

Peter Gasgano

Peter reaches across and takes the mules' tether from Kerim, knowing from past experience that he is by far the weakest combatant of the pair.

Grinning, in almost embarrassment, he ducks between the mules, remebering the previous attack the killed Aenis.
Noises

Admin

From behind the bushes, beyond the scattered branches, there comes a sharp "Yip Arrooowl".

It sounds vaguely familiar to those who have travelled with Rolf before.
Oh

Meeleek El'Wakhad

Meeleek focuses his attention to the opening between bushes to his left, waiting for any movement.
The voice

Rolf

At the sound of the voice, Rolf stops and looks towards the sound of the voice. It's naggingly familiar, but he can't quite place it. With sword in hand, he keeps his eyes glued, looking for any sign of movement or gleam of reflection that might give away the voice's position.
Oh boy

Corellon Amastacia

Noticing the sound immediately, Corellon's ears perk up a bit at it. Peering hard into the thick bushes around him, he nocks an arrow, and, motioning to the others (mainly Rolf), he begins to backtrack quickly, and heads around (with any who wish to join him) to flank where he last heard the sound.

Edgar

Edgar alights softly on Mandrake's shoulder. "Dogheads ?" he asks the gnome quietly.
Chanting on

Ravn Ashengrey

The shaft of light and the glimmering reflection fades, becoming invisible to all eyes but Ravn's. At the growling sound, the Runecaster slowly turns his attention full circle with the twisting spearhead, scanning the bushy perimeter and watching carefully for the sudden sparkling flashes that will indicate the presence of foes bent on evil intent.

"All-Seing Eye of the Ravens' Master which now I wield! Lend your godly gaze to me, your mortal kinsman, and let these cowardly covert niddings be revealed for their very maliciousness of mind!"
Incoming

Kerim Alakani

"Keep low and move, this will make you hardest to hit I think."

Kerim watches Correllan and Rolf, and looks about him.

"Bushes better hide us from arrows than nothing but air. Let us seek cover over there."

Kerim indicates the bushes to the south of the party (well south on the minimap in this thread). He is looking about and if attacked and unable to see a target will fire into the bushes he said to head to, more as a warning for anything there to vacate than as an aimed shot. Clear the path so to speak.
