91 Round House

johnb (Admin)

The party makes their way back to the paved area and clusters outside the doorway to one of the round houses. Rolf and Madelyn at the front, Callum and Ravn to the rear. The rest in a less organised group in the centre. The door itself is hanging from it leather hinges and little effort is required to remove it. It looks to be a fairly conventional round house of the type you have encountered before, except that part of the roof has fallen in and many of the internal walls are damaged.

Doorbreaker

Callum mac Aonghas

Callum will tag along at the back, breaking down doors and hitting things as necessary.

Let's get it done....

Rolf

Rolf motions to the round house, "Callum, you and Ravn check it out with Yuri, Zhiri and Peter. Madelyn and I will take Mandrake, Edgar and Elsbeth and investigate the other one." Rolf motions to the other nearby building. "Give a shout if there's need."

OOC: Is Kerim with the group or is he still hiding in the shadow of the first building?

More fun !

Zhiri

Zhiri gives Peter a brilliant smile and falls into step beside him as they walk across the yard. "Are you warriorfolk along with these others ?" she asks curiously. "Why does Rolf give so many orders ?" she adds, puzzled when they arrive at the roundhouse and are instructed to search it.

Laughs ...

Peter Gasgano

"Warrior folk ..." Peter smiles at the thought. "No, I'm a student and general dog's body. I'm along partly as nurse, partly as cook and partly as advisor to the rural communities on how to grow vegetables better. ... And Rolf gives the orders because he is tasked to - he is the contable or the Warder for this area - I haven't quite got the titles straight yet ... But the Earl appointed him."

Behind door number two

Edgar

Edgar barely pauses in his conversation with Mandrake as the party splits and the gnome follows after Rolf and Madelyn, though he does spare a glance back towards Elsbeth and favours her and Laddie with a low caaark to let them know that they're not forgotten, as they bring up the rear. "Your folk live below the ground, you say," Edgar asks the gnome worriedly, his initial impression that Mandrake might be telling him that they are all dead put aside as he likens these short two-legs to the burrowing creatures with which he is familiar. "I do not think I would like that ..."

Round houses

johnb (Admin)

Both round houses are similar. The main structure of the building is OK, some of the internal walls have fallen down, as has part of the ceiling. They can probably be repaired fairly easily. There is the remains of furniture in the building. Just normal stuff, but some of it is still complete and functional - a bed frame here, a chair there, a round table with a couple of stools. Otherwise the buildings seen unexceptional.

No place like it

Mandrake

"I do not think I would like that ..." "Ah yes, but then you are a creature of the wing. Mind you, there are several birds that nest below the ground are there not? I suspect that there are puffins not too far from here, being on the coast and all. I have watched the comings and goings of... sand martins I think my father called them. "There is nothing like the the constant cool temperature and the safety from creatures and the elements that a good burrow provides. "Mind you, we are not as extreme as the dwarves, they go deep, very deep and into rocks that are just not suitable."

Oh

Zhiri

Zhiri peers at Peter, an odd expression on her face. "Nurse ? Where are the children ? And I shouldn't have thought that growing vegetables was terribly difficult... don't they just come out of the ground... ?" Her voice trails off as she realises how little she knows about such mundane things, coming from a wealthy city family. She gives Peter a helpless shrug. "I have no idea how things are done here, so perhaps the vegetables grow differently. But I do know the Earl so I'm glad he's put Rolf in charge, that makes me feel a lot better."

next...

Rolf

After a quick examination of the round houses, Rolf waits for the group to gather together again. He points to the squarish building across the clearing from the first building they'd explored. "Let us explore that one."

Chit-chat

Ravn Ashengrey

Listening to the conversation going on between those appointed to help search the roundhouse, Ravn cannot help but let his eyes flick back and forth like those of someone watching a tennis match. He breaks his distraction and looks at Callum, who seems to have taken a wiser position a few paces away where the chatting does not fly about him like a swarm of bees. Had Ravn but stayed back there with his tall-haired companion...! Instead, the rune caster decides to carry out their leader's command without further ado nor discussion - he bows his head for the low arc and treads inside the round house, looking curiously about him to determine its contents and purpose, thinking aloud all the while. "Hmmm... Odd, this shape of building, or rather the composure of shapes for the entire settlement. These huts look very much like the Celtic style to me - though I am by no means the expert - and the house we searched earlier seemed as if it could be the Southern evolution of the squarish longhouse structure, to which pantries and kitchen are most oftenly added on the side of one end to get the chimneys as far away from where valuables are stored. Could it be that this dwelling once housed a united Norseman-Celtic society, I wonder? Hmmm..." Still mumbling, he searches the alcoves for item or clues that could serve to identify the building's past occupants.

Poor Little Rich Girl ....

Peter Gasgano

"Nurse in the sense of putting injuries right. " Peter corrects her gently "And vegetables grow well if you treat them right - just like children and animals - so I just give the pfarmers to occasional pointer to help them get the best of the land. You're not from the country side then?" he asks politely.

Next roundhouse

Ravn Ashengrey

The first of the round houses seems to hold nothing of interest, so Ravn goes to check the other one in a similar fashion, checking the alcoves for odds and ends that may betray the buildings' purpose and former inhabitants. Here and there, he pokes the blunt end of his spear into the flor to reveal any hidden basement entrances.

*shrug*

Ravn Ashengrey

** EDITED July 16, 2001, 9:04 am ** Finding no entries to secret and mysterious subterranean lairs, gnomish or otherwise, Ravn abandons the search of the roundhouses and joins the others in the square building, hoping they are faring better in their quest.
