90 Outside ...

johnb (Admin)

Quickly the door is opened and the paty make their way out side. Edgar and Ugghugg fly off over the rough ground slowly, with the party following. It is not difgficult to force a way to the small clearing where the two birds circle, but the is nothing there, except a narrow worn path, much like that which animals would make. Kerim sees the party leave the building from his vantage point.

OOC1: Please decide whether to leave the door open o closed behind you.

It's open

Madelyn

Madelyn follows the group, following the birds and leaves the door of the building open behind her, seeing no reason for it to be closed!

Jumping at shadows

Rolf

What with his other concerns, Rolf gives no thought to the door at all (Leave it open?). Indicating that the two in the lead should set off, Rolf keeps his eyes traversing the land about. Reaching the small clearing, Rolf shrugs as nothing is detected. Cautioning the others to remain clear of the worn path, Rolf carefully steps forward and tries to determine if any tracks remain that could shed some light on things. OOC: Would this be a tracking skill, identification check or what?

Out side ...

johnb (Admin)

When they reach the animal path, Rolf bends to inspect it. He follows it a little way into the brush on each side before finding a track in some powdered mud at the side of the path.

Tagging along

Callum mac Aonghas

Callum follows along a bit behind Rolf, careful to not obscure any tracks and looks around to see if he can identify what kind of wildlife lives around here.

Not much here

Rolf

Rolf stands and looks around, seeking any further tracks of interest. Shaking his head slightly, he looks to the others, "There's not much to be found here, only a wayward fox. Does anyone have any further ideas?"

Not much, indeed...

Ravn Ashengrey

Ravn looks with dissatisfaction and disappointment at the miniscule pawprint. "Hmmm.... I fear, Lord Constable, that my feathery companion has led us astray. A fox, however harmless to an armed band of heroes like ourselves, would present grave danger to a lone bird. Hence his alarm." He looks up at the hovering figures above. "Were it not that I think he has the protection of the One-eyed Wanderer I would ring his srawny neck for luring us out on this wild goose chase." He shrugs. "So maybe we should go back to the buildings now and continue our search...?"

Who would have guessed.

Yuri

Sighing with annoyance, Yuri mutters, "I thought we'd find as much, or less."

Just a thought

Elsbeth

Elsbeth steps forward, placing a soft hand on Rolf's shoulder. "Could it not be that there was only one beastie? That she might have been alone here? That we've spent time listenin' to the squeeks of boards and cacklings of crows to be thinkin' that's there more when our work be done here?"

Shall we search some more?

Rolf

Rolf nods in response to Yuri's muttering and in response to Elsbeth's soft hand and warm words, Rolf sighs, "Aye, it could be. Still, I'd rather seek out the imagined danger than ignore the real one." He takes another look around. Addressing everyone, he continues, "Perhaps the other buildings will provide more insight than the last. Is anyone of a different mind?" Drawing closer to Ravn, he says, "Be not overly harsh with your companion, Master Ashengrey. The crow behaves as is his nature and who knows, he may yet prove wiser than the rest of us."

Indeed.

Ravn Ashengrey

Ravn nods at Rolf's words. "'Tis true."

Expecting something bigger

Edgar

Edgar alights upon his customary perch. "Only a fox," he remarks to Mandrake with a dip of his head, "thank the gods for small mercies, hey ?" As Ravn voices uncharitable thoughts towards his feathered companion, the raven's eyes flick coldly towards the Norseman, and he opens his beak to respond hotly ... yet at Rolf's words, he closes it firmly once more, and turns away, looking around and about as the party approach whichever building next takes their fancy.

I've had enough!

Madelyn

Annoyed at being ignored by Rolf and annoyed at being sent on a wild goose chase by a dumb crow, Madelyn halts in her path. Unconsciously scratching at the skin under her black headband she says in a slightly raised voice, "I’ve had enough of this, we have been sent here on duty to complete a task, and all we are doing is humouring some dumb crow that has been spooked by a couple of foxes!" She takes a deep breath, and calming down a little she adds, "I am going back to the buildings, there is nothing here of interest and the sooner we get this job done the sooner we can all get home". With that said she turns on her heels and makes her way back to the western most round building without turning back to see who is following.

What?!?!?!

Rolf

Rolf frowns slightly as Madelyn makes an abrupt return towards the buildings. Moving quickly to move along, he motions to the others to follow suit. "Callum, Ravn, you two bring up the rear just in case we overlooked something." Moving closer to the woman who so occupies his thoughts in his free moments, few though they've been of late, he speaks to her in a low voice. "Madelyn, I can't tell you how much it eases my burdens, having you here to help me shoulder the of leading these people. I would have wished we had more time together before answering the call of duty."

OOC: Last night, Madelyn and Rolf were okay and now, even before lunch, she's annoyed at being ignored?!?!?!?

Now things are happening...

Elsbeth

When Madelyn turns, Elsbeth stops in her tracks. In fact, she still stands still as all turn to follow, only turning herself when faced with Callum and Ravn. One part of her wants to run to calm the other woman. The other part hesitates as Rolf moves capably to do just that himself. "The Gods work as they will," she whispers to herself, "not caring of the works of men." She stays standing with her emotions as the others pass her by...

One mans meat

Mandrake

"A fox indeed, but then we all of us, man or beast, has our own fears and nightmares to face. "I expect that there are many things that I would count as dangerous, which would barely raise an eyebrow on that crow. If he had an eyebrow of course." As Rolf asks about continuing the search of the buildings Mandrake agrees "Yes, I should like to find any clues as to the gnome statue."

Mysterious ways

Edgar

"Your kinfolk dwelt here one time, you think ?" Edgar asks Mandrake, the gnome's interest perhaps piquing the raven's own curiosity ... or maybe it is just a deliberate effort to ignore Madelyn's harsh words. "I would say that the buildings are not of their making ..."
As they pass by Elsbeth, Edgar, perhaps alone amongst the group, picks up the druid's quiet words ...
"The Gods work as they will," she whispers to herself, "not caring of the works of men."
... and as the gnome passes her by, the raven turns his head to stare at her, his eyes locking on to hers.
"All things have a purpose," he says softly to her, "and in time much that is hidden will be made clear."
His hold his gaze for a second longer, before his head turns away.

Perhaps

Mandrake

"Your kinfolk dwelt here one time, you think ?" Edgar asks Mandrake, the gnome's interest perhaps piquing the raven's own curiosity ... or maybe it is just a deliberate effort to ignore Madelyn's harsh words. "I would say that the buildings are not of their making ..." "It's not unheard of for the more adventurous types to live in human type dwellings, but no, I don't think that they builts the dwellings. "This does not mean though that there is not a complex, or at least a home or two somewhere below on this island."

I'm sorry

Madelyn

Madelyn hangs her head as Rolf moves in close, slightly ashamed of her outburst, but the events of the last couple of days have been weighing on her mind. She nods as he suggests his wishes for them having more time together then raises her head to look at him. "I am sorry Rolf, my outburst was uncalled for, but the sooner we clear this island, then the sooner we will get that time together … " she pauses as if to continue, but decides better of it. Her pace continues slowly to the western most round building, and she stops as they approach the entrance.

OOC: Hey, she’s female, need I say anymore!!!!! ;0)

Wisdom from above

Elsbeth

Elsbeth looks long at Edgar, then nods, whispering a prayer of thanks. The gods do indeed speak their minds, its seems. With a sigh, she snaps her fingers for Laddie and follows the group, her expression thoughtful.

OOC: I'll be likely out of touch 4 July to 14 July due to Army duty. I am not counting on internet access but if I get it, I'll use it.

The ways of women

Rolf

Rolf smiles in response to Madelyn's comments, more at what was left unsaid then what she spoke. He gives her a wink and a pat on the back, "Things will come in their own time, Madelyn, as much as we'd rather it were otherwise." As they approach the western most, round building, Rolf turns his attention back to matters of immediate concern.

back and forth

Peter Gasgano

Peter holds his place in the column as it heads bad to the buildings - trying to catch Zhiri's eye. When he does - he raises an eybrow and smiles .
