----------

Rolf moves away from the nest towards the top of the stairs discussing the moral necessity of killing the bird-babies with Callum and Edgar. After a cursory search of the nest, which reveals a silver studded leather belt and the complexity of the nest, Callum joins Rolf at the top of the stairs. But their calls for assistance seem to go largely unnoticed in the confusion of Uddhugg's rapid flight and return.

No one is sure of how to deal with Uddhugg. Ravn heads outside to do a reccy, but then returns inside when he remembers that Edgar will be able to translate, and every one else huddles around the door way. Some inside, some outside waiting to see what will happen.

Parlez vous Common ?

Edgar

Edgar struggles to make sense of the excited crow's chattering, interjecting a few stern caws to calm Uddhugg.

At length, he looks up, catching Ravn's eye and nodding his head in confirmation that he has indeed managed to glean some understanding of what troubles the crow, but his directs his translation to Rolf.

"The crow says that some sort of scavangers or predators are rapidly approaching this place ... they come from further inland, not from the sea."

His tone turns apologetic, "I cannot tell if it is naught but a flock of birds that took exception to an intruder or perhaps something far worse ... but would suggest we err on the side of caution ..."

Eyeing the hole in the roof with some trepidation, Edgar decides to follow his own advice, and swoops down to the lower level, to alight atop one of the taller items of furniture (perhaps a cupboard ?) in the kitchen.

A plan of action

Rolf

Idly pushing the silver studded belt into his shoulder bag, Rolf lets his lack of patience get the better of him. He catches Callums eye and shrugs. "Let's go see what those layabouts are up to." He heads on down the stairs.

As he rejoins the others, Edgar starts warning of a threat from inland, though of what nature he doesn't know. "First thing we need to do is find out what's coming. Callum, take Yuri and Ravn and see if there are any windows upstairs looking inland."

Turning, he continues, "Mandrake, Peter, Elsbeth, see what you can find that we can use to barracade the doors. If you find anything suitable, start sealing off this door." Rolf gestures at the door to the east. "Leave the other one for the moment."

"Madelyn, take Zhiri and Edgar and head up stairs and see if you can spy our attackers through that hole, but don't risk yourselves. Kerim, we'll see what we can do about getting on the roof from outside." He heads for the door in the east wall.

Following Orders

Elsbeth

Elsbeth nods, moving quickly to find something to bar the door. She doesn't question Rolf's order.

Good bird, Uddhugg

Ravn Ashengrey

Ravn looks very satisfied with having his pet warning the party about approaching danger. He summons Uddhugg and offers the scrawny bird a sip from his meadhorn, gently stroking its messy feathers as he addreses Rolf.
"Constable, I mean not to question your orders, but I believe Callum and I would be better placed outside beneath that three-towered building across the yard." He points out the kitchen door. "We could hide there and provide an element of surprise against our foes if they prove indeed to be aggressive. And one pair of eyes from upstairs -" he nods in Yuri's direction "- would surely enough to observe approachers and their actions. Besides, noble Callum and I are best in close combat and hence our skills could not be fully exploited if we were to take station upstairs."
Ravn looks from Rolf to Callum to Yuri and then back at Rolf.
"Don't you agree?"

Room to swing a cat

Callum mac Aonghas

Callum looks at Rolf. "I'll find a window if that's what you're after Rolf but the priest has a point. I have only my hunting spear to throw and I'm thinking I'd be doing more harm than good if I started swinging my sword in this place."

Not just yet...

Rolf

Rolf halts his movement as Ravn makes his suggestions. "I'm sorry master Ashengrey, but no. We are not staging for attack, but seeking the nature of the threat. For one thing, we do not know what lies above and I would not ask Yuri to face the unknown alone. For another, until we know what threat we face, we'll not deny any the protection of the building. Once we know what we face, then we'll figure out how to meet it. Now, make haste."

Yessir!

Ravn Ashengrey

"Yes, Constable."
Ravn nods, a sceptical frown on his forehead, sets the crow to rest on his shoulder, and tucks the mead horn away before the bird gets too intoxicated.
"Let us ascend."

If you say so...

Callum mac Aonghas

"Let us ascend."

Callum stares at Rolf for a moment, shrugs and heads towards his assigned post. "Aye, Priest. Let us hope it won't be coming to knives, fists and elbows in these wee rooms."

Following orders

Edgar

Edgar alights from his perch in the kitchen, his black-grey wings beating in great sweeps as he uses them to gain height quickly, flying up to the upper floor, where he lightly lands at the edge of the roof, his talons gripping the rotting talons tightly, as he stares out.

Doors ...

Peter Gasgano

Peter heads off into the kitchen looking for moveable cupboards, or other things that can be used to barricade the door.
