Ow, my ears!

[Edit]

With a muttered curse, Yuri slips his backpack off his shoulders and begins rummaging around in it for some cloth, which, with a tearing sound, he pulls out and begins to shove in his ears.

Oh good idea!

By Imogen
who plays Zhiri
[Edit]

Zhiri, who seems content to watch for a moment, notices Yuri's actions and claps her hands approvingly, giving her dress a speculative look before asking him if he can spare any for her.

"Please? May I?"

Suspiciousness reigns

By Brad
who plays Rolf
[Edit]

Seeing the advancement of the trio, Rolf calls out, "Madelyn, Elsbeth, Ravn, come back here." Rolf's face is troubled, yearning to attack, but wanting to resolve things peacefully. There is no reason for the ladies and Ravn to push ahead, something is not right here. The thought claws at him.

With a shrug and a rip, Yuri hands over some cloth to Zhiri, the clothing was already ruined so a little more was hardle going to matter.

Come here

By JohnB
[Edit]

Elsbeth, Madleyn and Ravn completely ignore Rolf's instruction to come back to the party, but remain where they are swaying in time to the music.

The Bird Woman, however, draws exorably closer ....

Ah! a new thing to kill!

By malc
who plays Callum
[Edit]

OOC: Apologies for missing last week

Callum shakes his head as though to clear it and examines the situation. He sticks his sword into the ground at his feet and then hefts his spear. He draws his arm back and puts all his huge strength into a throw before grabbing his sword and preparing to rush forward and defend his friends.

OOC: What do I need to hit it? I'll make the save after I see if the spear hits or not.

OOC

By JohnB
[Edit]

Callum needs a 12 to hit - its at long range from there for a spear

He missed the barn...

By malc
who plays Callum
[Edit]

Callum curses loudly as the spear passes far to the right of the creature, sideways. He pulls his sword from the ground and rushes forward, screaming battle cries and moving to intercept.

OOC: Rolled a 2 for the to hit but a 15 for the save. How high is is it flying (i.e. could, for example, a 6'8" tall man wielding a 6' long sword reach it)?

Sounds of silence

By Skald
who plays Edgar
[Edit]

The obvious antagonism the party has towards the bird-woman does not go unnoticed by Edgar ... nor does the effect her song has had upon Elsbeth, Madelyn and Ravn or the precautions hurriedly undertaken by Yuri pass him by.

Unable to do much else, he takes to cawing loudly, hopeful that perhaps those nearby will not be able to hear her over the noise he is making ...

"CAAAAAARRRRRRRKKKK ! CAAARRRRRRRRKKKK !"

Don't hurt my Angel!

By Sharon
who plays Madelyn
[Edit]

Madelyn stands on the dock swaying, like a tree in the wind. She is unaware that she still has Elsbeth’s hand clasped in hers, and can hear nothing, but the sound of beautiful song. The song is so sweet, so light and airy it grasps at her and carries her up, up into the sky.

Turning to the source of the song, she finds herself looking down on the dock. She sees the beautiful angel, her hair flowing as she sings so sweetly to Madelyn’s friends. Madelyn cannot remember seeing anything so beautiful, the angel is cocooned in a bed of wonderful colours. The rainbow like effect carries across the buildings on the dock, the colours glimmering in the sunlight.

Amidst the colours she sees Rolf standing with bow readied, and a knife of fear stabs at her heart. He cannot harm her angel, the beautiful angel, making such beautiful song. She wants to stop him, to hurt him for even considering harming this wonderful creature, then suddenly her attention is caught by another. As the colours swirl, she sees Callum run forward to charge at her angel … How can he, how can he harm her angel, she wants to stop him, to hurt him for even attempting.

Ode for the helpless

By Dogowar
who plays Ravn
[Edit]

To Ravn, the entire world surrounding him is a foggy mist, spiralling into a swirling rainbow of colours that circles around, no, gathers into and forms a beautiful creature, a Vana, a faerie spirit treading on the summer breeze, singing a song so fickle and faint yet still strong and overbearing that there is nothing but the song and the faerie being in existence, even his own presence seems like in a dream, as if he were present and absent at the same time. He closes his eyes and savours the sweet tones, vaguely feeling his body sway like a strand of weed on a sandy dune as it bends to the coastal winds. Suddenly, there is a distant sound, a disharmony in this cacophonous world of harmony, completely out of place. A raven’s shadow seems to fall across the picture, and by instinct, training, and arduous habit he tries to follow it as it leads him out of this void of gentle sounds. But he fails, falling back into the swirling mists, struggling to release himself of the chanting fist that holds him fast.

Lost

By lechrist
who plays Elsbeth
[Edit]

Like a warm blanket, the song envelopes the druid, the sounds melding with her senses to become her world. Though vaguely aware of the strong grip of Madelyn's hand in hers, the thoughts and chaos of her feelings for the other woman are now forgotten in the song that fills her. Indeed, she cannot even see the source as she closes her eyes and faces the beauty that she now hears.

In the background are other sounds- discordant sounds. Annoying sounds. Elsbeth tries to ignore these, only wanting to hear the beautiful voice singing to her...

Distrurbed and distrought

By Brad
who plays Rolf
[Edit]

Rolf let's the doubts overtake him. Pulling back the string, he lets fly. He quickly notches a second arrow, but does not yet send it after the first.

OOC: Rolled a 9. I'm unsure of what modifiers or scores are needed.

Dog fight

By Daren
who plays Mandrake
[Edit]

Mandrake stays in his spot and begins now weave an intricate pattern with his voice and his hands and then it is done, but nothing seems to have resulted.

Still though he stands in his spot, concentration evident in his face and still form, but still nothing happens. To any watching they would think him under the creature's spell or some other charm.

A second later there is a flash of movement to the left of the jetty and from behind the buildings flies a great sea bird, feathers glinting golden brown in the rays of the sun, magnificent yellow hooked beak and great talons held back beneath it’s white tail.

With eyes fixed on the creature the eagle’s great wings beat a slow rhythm, almost too slow to be effective, but the flex in the tips of the feathers show this not to be so.

The eagle swiftly climbs and then stoops into a dive straight for the creature, the advantage of height being turned into deadly speed.

(OOC: just in case you want it rolled an unmodified 13)

Second thoughts

By Kerim
who plays Kerim
[Edit]

Observing the effectiveness of the attacks from his two allies Kerim weighs up the situation.

"A charm perhaps, against flighted objects, reasonable enough I imagine"

Instead of loosing a stone at the creature he backs away from the trouble.

"Effendi Rolf, I speak of what sailors the worlds speak when I say the ocean has alluring siren songs that capture the souls of entire crews, speeding them a watery doom. Speak you may with this creature, though know that to speak such also you must listen, a danger indeed. Reason of speach will be little good indeed if we must heed it's desire."

Kerim then pulls apart a lump of cheese, stuffing small cubes into his ears, an act he looks reluctant to do.

OOC Cheese

By JohnB
[Edit]

How did I guess someone would use cheese? :)

Now where did I put the stats for the cheese mites that multiply at a phenomenal rate in warm moist places ....

A flying, feathered shaft

By Brad
who plays Rolf
[Edit]

It takes a moment for Kerim's words to sink in and Rolf glances in that direction. As the trader stuffs cheese in his ears, Rolf looks surprised, but then he heeds the words of warning. He knows nothing of the songs of sirens, nor of sirens themselves, but there was little sea lore to be learned in the forests. Still, he has no cheese, nor anything which might serve. Distance and his bow would have to serve him well. Drawing the bow, he lets fly his second arrow.

OOC: Second attack is an unmodified 13.

Concern

By Kerim
who plays Kerim
[Edit]

Of course Kerim is worried about cheese mites, why do you think he paused before undesireably completing this action.

I hardly think I have time to warm up wax enough from a candle to stuff that in my ear, even pure tallow fat isn't good enough for that. No cheese it'll have to be, and possibly it's how blue vein cheeses can be introduced to this land, Kerim can thus have sole proprietry rights on the new bromage, he is after all a trader looking for markets.

But back to the game.

Kerim, ears filled with cheese that he'd frankly rather have eaten than used for the purpose at hand, watches Rolf either ignore his warning or fail to act upon it.

He talks to himself, or what he considers to himself but it ends up louder than intended as is normal when ones hearing is impaired from before.

"Effendi, you can entreat talk of a temptress yet not listen to a fellow traveller."

Though the tone implies no disrepect, only an analytical examination of the facts.

Kerim, sensing it is up to him shouts to his allies.

"Your ears my friends. Cover them now, such to defy the song of the sky siren. Do this now please."

After this Kerim starts to crumble up some more cheese into earplugs and then moves to offer these to those that will take such. Though he keeps one eye on the advance of the sky siren.
