Herloch sets off toward the repaired earthworks, with Yuri hurrying to catch up. It is clear that Herloch is trying to cover his approach, but to Yuri it feels both loud and obvious as they get closer to the earthworks. The only good thing about the expedition, from Yuri's point of view, is that he doesn't see anybody looking over the earthworks or fencing towards them. Once closer it is easy to see the earthworks are quite small - they are round and cover an area of about 25yards in diameter. There is a ditch of about 7-8 feet deep and a corresponding embankment inside the ditch. There is a poor quality patchwork fence filling the gaps in the earthworks where the embankment has partly collapsed into the ditch. In those places the distance between the bottom of the ditch and the top of the bank is perhaps only 7-8 feet, although there is a 5 feet tall fence sitting in the gap. There is one entrance, and a large single gate blocks that - it is about 7 feet wide and 10 feet tall. Apart from the smoke there is no visible signs of life - although every day sounds of life leak over the walls. There are voices speaking in a language neither Yuri nor Herloch understand and there is the occasional sound of and axe on wood. It only takes about 30 minutes for the pair to scout the area and report back. During the wait, Peter relaxes slightly. Although he keeps his leather coat strapped tight - he relaxes his grip on his shiled a little and takes his hand fro the dagger's handle. Instead he gently rubs the mules neck as he strains to see how Yuri and Herloch are progressing. |

After hearing the reports from Herloch and Yuri, Rolf addresses the whole group. "I would say it's probably safe. Mandrake and I will move ahead, but the rest of you stay near just in case. Madelyn will command in my absence." He reaches up and lays a hand on hers and squeezes it as he looks into her eyes. After a moment, he gives a curt nod. "Come, friend Mandrake." As they draw near enough to hear the voices, Rolf speaks quietly, "Do you know that tongue?" He holds still, waiting on Mandrakes answer before continueing onwards. OOC: If Mandrake doesn't understand the language, Rolf will send him back to rejoin the others. |

Madelyn keeps her eyes open on the surroundings as Herloch and Yuri slope off. On their return, she listens to what they have to say, and at Rolf’s suggestion that he and Mandrake move ahead, she frown’s in worry. As he reaches up and squeezes her hand she smiles, not wanting him to see her worry, "Be careful", she whispers quietly to him, and returns to scanning the surroundings, as he disappears off with Mandrake. |

Like Madelyn, Edgar too frets as Rolf and Mandrake take the lead, but the raven's concern is not for the tough Warden, but for the quiet gnome at his side. As Mandrake dismounts, he shuffles down the mule's neck so that he can hop onto the gnome's shoulder, but stops as the Warden commands otherwise, and, after a moments pause, flutters across to perch on Yuri's shoulder, where he gives a low caark of greeting then sits quietly. |

Elsbeth watches the return, hearing Rolf's words mounted as she is like Madelyn. At his orders, she acts as if she is going to speak up, then is quiet as he places Madelyn in charge. She merely leans down and whispers to Laddie, encouraging him to stay put. Her eyes are on the other woman- watching, waiting. |

Herloch does his best to scout out the earthwork and obtain enough information to bring back to the group. He shrugs his shoulders to Yuri upon hearing the strange language being spoken. Before they return, Herloch kneels down and takes out the tiny hammer that is hung by a chain around his neck. He whispers a quiet prayer saying, "Great Thor, you are the mightiest of warriors. Part of what makes you such a powerful combatant is your ability to read into the hearts of others and divine their intent. Grace me with that ability now, so I may know what lies in the hearts of those inside this structure." OOC: Detect Evil pointed at the voices inside. |

Callum stands at the front of the group while various people do their scouting. He completely misses the building tension as he stands, sword in hand, waiting and hoping for a fight. |

Peter hangs about by his mules idly stroking the neck of the one he is holding. |
