56a The End of the Hunt?

By JohnB

The baying and belling of the hounds is getting louder and, it seems, the hounds more solid - because the dogheads are starting to yelp in fear and surprise as they start to feel the teeth of the hounds bite into them.

Suddenly the Dogheads turn and flee, as the huntsman gives a final blast on his horn and starts to advance into the battle. As the dogheads run they take a last opportunity to swing at you and the unfortunate mandrake takes another blow, even as he tries to run from the battle and is bowled over (2pts dam), Flea (2pt) and Jesse (3 pts) are also struck, both in the back, by fleeing dogheads.

But as you turn to take advantage of the running dogheads, your legs and arms start to feel heavy and you suddenly feel very tired. No matter how hard you try, you just can't pursue them and your vision starts to darken as you sink to the floor, the last you remember is the dogheads running - now pursued by the fully corporeal hounds and their master ….

Edgar, on the other hand, is completely unaffected by the strange malaise and watches the spectacle of the dogheads chased and ripped to pieces by the hounds. In many cases they are first struck by the spear of the huntsman, and as they struggle from that, the hounds get them. It is a horrific sight, as the dogheads are literally dismembered and worried into several pieces by the hounds, until finally the last of the dogheads are destroyed. And then the hunt continues its chase into the distance, the huntsman sounding his horn again, and the belling of the hounds becoming quieter and then, eventually, silent ….

Finally all that can be seen are the flashes of green flame disappearing into the distance, until they too fade from view. Apart from the surrounding carnage, it is as quiet and peaceful as it could ever be.

Edgar is left alone with the comatose bodies of his companions, the bodies of the dogheads killed by the party, and the gory remains of those dogheads ripped to pieces by the hunt.

Tired

By lechrist
who plays Elsbeth

Elsbeth slashes one last time as the horn sounds and the dogheads turn to run, but she stumbles, her scimitar swinging wide. Suddenly she feels the lack of air in her lungs, the aches in her limbs. Though she feels the pull of the hunt, her fatigue overcomes her as she stumbles to her knees, then falls into blessed blackness and knows no more.

Again!

By Jim
who plays Smilo Hairfoot

Smilo throws his arms in the air--a bloody dirk in one hand--and laughs wickedly. He darts at the same doghead-

OOC: 1 more point for 10 points. Or, if we're doing double damage on a natural twenty, 14 points.

He then spins around and collapses..

Falling down to earth

By Brad
who plays Rolf

Seeing the dogheads begin to turn, Rolf almost hears their spirit break. His smile widens and he laughs aloud as he swings the blade back around. Seeing a doghead ready for the slaying, he puts his full weight behind the blow, sure that it will cleave the beast in twain. But at the last moment, the breath is driven from his chest and a darkness settles about his eyes. The force of the blow carries his arms around and he feels it bite flesh (9 hp damage), but somehow, it doesn't concern him any more.

He stands, teetering, the tip of his sword falling limply to the ground. For a moment, Rolf feels himself swaying until a great sound of rushing wind drives past his ears. His last conscious thought was the stunning impact as he strikes the ground.

Sleepytime!

By malc
who plays Callum

As the dogheads break and run, Callum swings his sword at the fleeing dogheads, knocking one forwards off of it's feet. He leaps forward to pursue the fleeing creatures but after a few steps, even the battle rage can't sustain him and he falls forwards to the ground, his body shrinking and twisting to it's normal shape.

On Guard

By Skald
who plays Edgar

As horrified as he is by the dreadful spectacle of the hounds tearing the fleeing dogsheads to shreds, the sudden collapse of his new friends causes Edgar to abandon both vigil and perch and to flutter down to the ground.

Standing for a moment, surveying the scene, he shakes his beak from side to side in disbelief, muttering to himself concerning "unnatural happenings", and "see what occurs when you meddle in things you do not understand" (the latter a reference to the ceremony of previous evening), as he pokes the fallen "two legs" with his beak, seeking to rouse them from their enforced slumber, his concern obvious despite his chiding.

If he fails to wake any of the party, Edgar will stand guard over them, senses alert for the approach of anyone, friend or foe.
